Position Summary:
Idaho Water Resources Research Institute (IWRRI) is being re-imagined to become a nationally recognized research institute focused on integrated water-based human and biophysical systems. The IWRRI mission is to: a) lead the University of Idaho's water-systems faculty to collaborate across Colleges in research to reconcile water ecosystems, technology and society, to provide high impact research on the pathway to sustainable economies, quality of life, and resilient ecosystems, b) lead IWRRI outreach and engagement programs and activities in developing solutions to Idaho's, the region's, the nation's and the world's water challenges through interdisciplinary research, outreach and information transfer, and c) build on the University of Idaho's quality and reputation in water-systems research. Reporting to the Vice President for Research and Economic Development and holding tenured faculty rank, the IWRRI Director provides leadership by promoting, organizing and coordinating interdisciplinary efforts in water-systems research and water-systems education, by interacting with the Vice President for Research, deans, department chairs, program directors and faculty across the University to promote interdisciplinary water-systems programs. The IWRRI Director will coordinate with the Director of the Water Resources graduate program to ensure integrations between funded research and graduate student participation in team-based interdisciplinary research.

Minimum Qualifications:

• An earned doctorate (or equivalent terminal degree) in a relevant discipline from an accredited university.
• Eligible to meet the criteria for rank of tenured associate or full research professorship at the University of Idaho.
• Nationally/internationally recognized research focus and accomplishments relevant to the IWRRI mission.
• Experience leading or participating in multi-institutional interdisciplinary teams focused on water resource issues, challenges, or opportunities.
• Commitment to team-based research.
• Stated willingness to travel regionally and nationally on a frequent basis.
• This position requires the successful completion of a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proven research leadership capabilities demonstrated by success at a research/teaching university or other research organization.
• Demonstrated excellence in research and experience in collaborative research programs associated with water resources-systems.
• Demonstrated vision, capability, and experience to address the challenges associated with a broad range of water-system challenges.
• Demonstrated commitment to the land-grant philosophy.
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, outreach, and service.
• Outstanding communication skills and demonstrated experience interacting successfully with faculty and staff, national laboratories, governmental entities, businesses, research sponsors, and the public.
• Demonstrated commitment to affirmative action and diversity, and a high level of professional credibility and personal integrity.
• Demonstrated experience in program initiation, development, budgeting and personnel management.
